Global Period Calculator

The surgical global period is calendar arithmetic once you know the global designation the procedure code carries. Enter the date of surgery and pick 000, 010 or 090, and it returns the first and last day of the period, the first day outside it, the number of calendar days covered and the postoperative day numbering; a second mode takes a later date of service and says which side of the line it falls on and how many days are left. The designation is an input rather than a lookup because it lives in the global days column of the payer's own fee schedule, which is revised every year and which a contracted payer can vary, so take it from the schedule the claim will be paid against. XXX, YYY, ZZZ and MMM are answered by explaining that no fixed period applies to them. Counting days is all this does: whether a visit is payable turns on what it was for and on the modifier used.
