According to biorhythm theory, these cycles begin at birth and oscillate in predictable sinusoidal waves throughout our lives.

The Three Primary Biorhythm Cycles

Traditional biorhythm theory focuses on three primary cycles:

  • Physical Cycle (23 days): Governs physical strength, endurance, energy, stamina, and resistance to illness. This cycle affects coordination, physical resilience, and overall vitality.

The Mathematical Model

Biorhythms are calculated using a simple mathematical formula based on sine waves:

Where:

  • \(B(t)\) is the biorhythm value at time \(t\)
  • \(t\) is the number of days since birth
  • \(p\) is the period of the cycle (23, 28, 33, or 38 days)

The result is a value between -1 and 1, which can be interpreted as follows:

  • +1 to +0.5: High phase (peak performance)
  • +0.5 to +0.1: Rising phase (increasing capabilities)
  • +0.1 to -0.1: Critical phase (unstable, transitional period)
  • -0.1 to -0.5: Falling phase (decreasing capabilities)
  • -0.5 to -1: Low phase (rest and recovery)

Critical Days and Compatibility

In biorhythm theory, certain days are considered particularly significant:

  • Critical Days: When a cycle crosses the zero line (changing from positive to negative or vice versa), it's considered a "critical day" for that aspect of your life. These days may be characterized by instability or transition in that particular area.
  • Peak Days: When a cycle reaches its maximum positive value, representing optimal performance in that aspect.
  • Trough Days: When a cycle reaches its maximum negative value, suggesting a time for rest and regeneration.
