Linear to Decibel Calculator

This calculator converts a linear ratio into decibels. Enter the linear value and it returns the equivalent in dB, using the logarithmic relationship that underlies the unit. Decibels compress an enormous range of values into a workable scale, which is why audio, radio and optics all use them. Because the scale is logarithmic, a small change in dB can mean a large change in the underlying ratio.
