457 Plan Calculator

A 457(b) deferred compensation calculator built around the two rules that make the plan different from a 401(k). One action works out how much you may defer, applying the age 50 catch-up and the three-year special catch-up and saying which of the two is larger, since you cannot use both. Another compares a withdrawal from a governmental 457(b) with the same withdrawal from a 401(k), where the 10% early distribution penalty normally bites and here it does not. The third projects the balance forward and shows what is left after tax. You enter the dollar limits yourself, because the IRS changes them every year.

Calculator Type

Applies the age 50 catch-up and the three-year special catch-up, and shows which one wins.

The basic 457(b) limit for the year. It is not built in because the IRS changes it annually.
The age your plan document names, which is not always 65. Enter 1, 2 or 3 to be inside the special catch-up window.
Total you could have deferred in past years with this employer and did not. Your plan administrator works this out; it caps the special catch-up.
Also set by the IRS each year. A non-governmental 457(b) does not offer it at all.
Only used to show the deferral as a share of pay. Includible compensation is its own ceiling.
