Break Even Calculator

Break-even is the volume at which sales stop losing money and start making it. Enter fixed costs with a selling price and the variable cost of one unit, or a whole period's revenue and variable costs, and it returns the units and the revenue that cover the fixed costs, the contribution margin behind them, the margin of safety against your forecast, and the volume a target profit needs. It assumes one price and one variable cost for every unit, so a shifting product mix or a fixed cost that steps up with volume moves the real answer.

Calculator Type
Rent, salaries, insurance, software and anything else you pay whether or not you sell a single unit. Use one period, usually a month or a year, and keep every other figure on the same period.
What one more sale costs you: materials, packaging, shipping, the payment fee and any commission. Not the rent.
Leave at zero to see the break-even alone.
Your forecast or last period's actual. Needed for the margin of safety.
