FTE Calculator

An FTE calculator with three separate jobs. Enter hours for a week, a month or a year against the full-time week your organisation uses and it returns the full-time equivalent; enter a full-time headcount plus the total weekly part-time hours and it returns the capacity of the whole team; or enter monthly figures and it applies the Affordable Care Act test instead. The ACA action is kept apart on purpose, because it defines full time as 30 hours a week and 120 monthly hours per equivalent, not the 40-hour convention. Mixing the two definitions is the usual way an employer gets this wrong.

Calculator Type
Whatever your organisation counts as full time. 40 is the usual US convention; 37.5 and 35 are common elsewhere.

Average over the twelve months. Under the ACA an employee is full time at 30 hours a week or 130 hours a month.
Add the monthly hours of service of every employee who is not full time, counting no more than 120 hours for any one person.
The ACA applicable large employer test is 50. Leave it alone unless you are testing a different rule.
