Marginal Cost Calculator

Marginal cost is what the next unit adds to your total cost. Enter two production levels with their total costs and this divides the change in cost by the change in output, or enter a cost curve as a fixed cost, a per-unit cost and a rising-cost coefficient and it returns the marginal cost at any quantity. Both routes show average total cost beside it, and the curve route finds the quantity where the two meet, which is the lowest average cost. A marginal cost taken across a wide step averages out any jump inside it, so keep the step small.

What you pay whether or not you make a single unit.
The straight-line part of the cost of one more unit.
The q-squared term. Leave at zero when each unit costs the same as the last; raise it when overtime, waste or crowding make later units dearer.
