RMD Calculator

This calculator divides your prior year-end balance by the distribution period for your age, which is all a required minimum distribution is. The periods are the IRS Uniform Lifetime Table in force since 2022, and the tool also works out which year is your first, since SECURE 2.0 moved the starting age to 73 and moves it to 75 for anyone born in 1960 or later. A second action projects the distributions forward at a return you choose and shows the required percentage climbing as the period shrinks. If your spouse is your sole beneficiary and more than ten years younger, a different table applies and this page says so instead of handing back a figure that is too large. Inherited accounts follow separate rules and are not covered.

The prior year-end value, not today's. That is the figure the rule uses, whatever the market has done since.
The year the money has to come out of the account.
