Alcohol and Breastfeeding Calculator
Alcohol is not stored in milk: it passes freely between blood and milk, so the level in milk follows the level in blood and falls with it. This estimates how long that takes, using the Widmark equation on the number of drinks, your body weight, the distribution ratio and the hours since your first drink, and shows the spread that comes from elimination rates between 0.010% and 0.020% per hour. Expressing and discarding milk does not clear alcohol from your body and does not shorten the wait, and neither does coffee, water or food. This is a model rather than a measurement, the variation between people is wide, and the safest course is to wait until you feel completely sober.
