Max Heart Rate Calculator

This tool estimates maximum heart rate from age and names the equation behind every figure. The headline uses Tanaka, 208 minus 0.7 times age, and the same result also lists the 220 minus age rule, the HUNT study equation and the Gulati equation derived in women, so you can see how far the four disagree at your age. A second mode takes a peak you have actually recorded and says how far it sits from the age prediction. Treat all of it as a population average: every one of these formulas carries a standard error near ten beats per minute for an individual, and 220 minus age has the widest band of the four.
