Resting Metabolic Rate Calculator

Resting metabolic rate is the energy your body spends doing nothing, and almost all of it is burned by lean tissue. This page takes that route directly: enter your weight and a body fat percentage, or a lean mass figure from a scan, and it returns the Katch-McArdle and Cunningham estimates side by side along with your lean mass, fat mass and daily totals at four activity levels. Neither equation asks for height, age or sex, because the lean mass measurement already carries what those stand in for. The answer is only as good as the body composition figure behind it, and calipers or a handheld impedance device can move it by a hundred calories either way.

Weight Unit

The usual route: weight plus a body fat percentage from calipers, a scale or a scan.

From calipers, bioimpedance or a scan. If you do not have a measurement, the site has a body fat calculator; an estimate here is an estimate in the answer.

Unit

If a scan gave you the lean mass, enter it and skip the percentage.

In the same unit as the lean mass. Only used to print the fat mass and body fat percentage; the rate itself does not need it.
