Muzzle Energy Calculator

This tool works out the kinetic energy a projectile carries as it leaves the muzzle. Enter the bullet weight in grains or grams and the muzzle velocity in feet per second or metres per second, add the bullet diameter if you want the diameter-based indices, and it returns energy in foot-pounds and joules along with momentum, power factor, Taylor KO and sectional density. A second action runs the sum backwards and gives the velocity a bullet of a given weight would need to reach a target energy. Everything is computed in kilograms and metres per second and converted afterwards, so no rounded shortcut constant is involved. The figures describe the muzzle only, because a bullet starts shedding velocity the moment it leaves the barrel.
