ERA Calculator

ERA is earned runs multiplied by nine and divided by innings pitched, and this works it out from a pitching line. Enter the earned runs and the innings as whole innings plus the leftover outs, and it returns the earned run average, the innings counted in outs and, if you add total runs allowed, the runs per nine innings that counts the unearned ones too. A second mode takes the line so far and the innings still to come and says how many more earned runs fit under a target ERA. It reads .1 and .2 as one and two thirds of an inning rather than tenths, which is where hand arithmetic usually goes wrong. Whether a run is earned is the official scorer's call, so that number has to come from the box score.

Calculator Type

Enter the innings the way a box score writes them: whole innings, then the leftover outs as .0, .1 or .2.

Earned runs only. A run that scored because of an error or a passed ball is unearned and does not count here.
Optional. Fill it in to also see runs allowed per nine innings, which counts the unearned runs too.
