FIRE Calculator

FIRE stands for Financial Independence, Retire Early, and has nothing to do with fire. Enter your take-home income and spending, or a savings rate, along with what you have invested, a real return after inflation and a safe withdrawal rate, and you get the number you are aiming at and how many years of saving it takes to reach it. The target is your yearly spending divided by the withdrawal rate, and the years come from inverting the growth of your balance plus each year's saving. Everything stays in today's money because the return you enter is a real one. It assumes level spending and one steady return every year, which no real market delivers, so treat the answer as a direction rather than a date.
