Pro Rata Calculator

Pro rata means in proportion, and this page does both shapes of it. One action divides an amount between up to six parties by their shares, units or headcount, cutting each part to whole cents by the largest remainder method so the parts still add back to the total exactly instead of landing a penny short. The other takes a full period charge and the days actually used, and returns the amount earned, the unused remainder and the daily rate, which is the pro rata basis for a mid-term cancellation or a part year of a salary. A short rate cancellation keeps a penalty back and is not modelled.

Calculator Type

Divide one amount between up to six parties in proportion to their shares, units, holdings or headcount. The parts are cut to whole cents and always add back to the total.

365 for an annual policy, 30 or 31 for a month, 7 for a week.
Count the days from the start of the period to the date it ended. Whether the last day counts is a matter for the contract.
