Dunk Calculator

Dunking is geometry: a regulation rim sits 120 inches up, and what decides everything is how high your fingertips reach at the top of the jump. Enter your height, your standing reach if you have measured it and the rim height, and it returns the vertical needed to touch the rim, to grab and hang, and to dunk one-handed or two-handed with room for the ball. The second action goes the other way, taking a vertical you already jump and saying which of those four you reach and by how much. Standing reach is the input that decides the answer and it varies several inches between people of the same height, so measure yours rather than leaning on the estimate.

Calculator Type
Measured In
Only used with feet and inches. Leave it blank if you are working in centimetres.
Stand flat-footed, reach straight up and measure to your fingertips. Leave it blank and it is estimated at 1.33 x your height.
Left blank it uses a regulation 10 foot rim, 120 in or 304.8 cm. Youth rims come down to 96 in (244 cm) or 84 in (213 cm).
