Pregnancy Weight Gain Calculator

This calculator reports the pregnancy weight gain ranges published by the Institute of Medicine in its 2009 report Weight Gain During Pregnancy: Reexamining the Guidelines. Enter your height, your pre-pregnancy weight, the week you are in and whether you are carrying one baby or twins, and it works out the pre-pregnancy BMI, the category that BMI falls in, the total range for the whole pregnancy and the cumulative range for the week you are at, built from the report's first trimester allowance of 1.1 to 4.4 pounds and its weekly rate for the second and third trimesters. Adding your current weight shows the gain so far and whether it sits below, within or above that band. Those ranges were set for populations rather than for one person, and the 2009 report gives twins a provisional total with no weekly rate and no range at all for an underweight BMI. This is not medical advice and it does not tell anyone to gain or lose weight; the clinician looking after you is the one who decides what is right for your pregnancy.
