Rucking Calorie Calculator

Carrying a pack changes the energy cost of walking in a way a MET table cannot show, because those values were measured on people carrying nothing. This uses the Pandolf equation from 1977, which takes body weight, load, speed, grade and a terrain factor, with the Santee correction applied on a descent. Enter the ruck and you get calories for the session, calories an hour, the share that came from the load rather than the walk, and the metabolic rate in watts. It is a group average fitted on soldiers, so treat it as an estimate, and it is a gross figure that includes the calories you would have burned resting.
