Waist to Hip Ratio Calculator
Waist to hip ratio is waist circumference divided by hip circumference, and it says something body weight alone does not: where the weight sits. Enter both measurements in centimetres or inches along with your sex, and you get the ratio plus how it compares with the published cut-off. The cut-offs used are from the WHO Expert Consultation on Waist Circumference and Waist-Hip Ratio, Geneva 2008, which places substantially increased risk of metabolic complications at a ratio of 0.90 or more for men and 0.85 or more for women, and at a waist above 102 cm for men or 88 cm for women. Both the ratio and the waist figure are reported against those levels. It is a screening number rather than a diagnosis, and the cut-offs were drawn largely from European populations.
