This calculator gives the water a fish tank actually holds rather than the volume of the box it looks like. Pick a rectangular, bowfront or cylinder tank, enter the dimensions in inches or centimetres, say whether you measured inside or outside the glass, and add the glass thickness, how far below the rim you fill and how deep the substrate sits. Outside measurements have the glass taken off every pane, the bowfront is treated as an arc of a circle, and the substrate removes the share of its layer you set as grain rather than water, 65 percent by default for gravel and sand. The result is the volume in US gallons, imperial gallons and litres, with the weight of the water at freshwater or saltwater density. Rocks, wood and equipment displace water that this figure does not remove, and the weight shown is water only, so a stand has more than this to carry.
