Decimal to Binary Converter

This converter moves a number between binary, octal, decimal and hexadecimal in any direction, including the part after the point. Enter the value, say which base it is written in, and all four bases come back at once, each marked as exact or cut short where a fraction does not terminate. A second mode shows the repeated-division steps behind a whole-number conversion and checks the answer by place value. The digits are converted directly rather than through a floating point value, so a number wider than 64 bits stays exact and a repeating fraction is cut rather than rounded.

Calculator Type

Type a value, say which base it is written in, and get it back in all four. A decimal point is allowed and is converted digit by digit.

Spaces, underscores, commas and a leading 0b, 0o, 0x or 0d are ignored. A minus sign is allowed.
A fraction that does not terminate in the target base is cut here, and the result says it was cut.

The long way round for a whole number: divide by the target base again and again and read the remainders backwards.
