Mean Absolute Deviation Calculator

Mean absolute deviation measures spread as the plain average distance between each value and the centre of a data set. Paste your numbers and it returns the deviation about the mean and about the median, along with the mean, median, count, sum and range. A second mode takes a frequency table instead, so a repeated value does not have to be typed out again and again. Because the distances are never squared, one far-off value moves the answer far less than it moves a standard deviation.
