T Score Calculator

This works out the t statistic of a t-test from summary data: one sample against a hypothesised mean, or two independent groups by either the Welch or the pooled form. You enter the means, the standard deviations and the sample sizes, and it returns t, the degrees of freedom, the standard error and the two-tailed p-value, with the formula it used written out beside them. A third mode gives the critical t value for a confidence level, including for the fractional degrees of freedom a Welch test produces, which no printed table has a row for. This is the t of a t-test, not the bone density T-score from a DEXA scan.

Calculator Type

The usual one-sample t. Run it on the differences with the hypothesised mean left at zero and it is a paired t-test.

Leave at 0 for a paired test on differences.
The sample standard deviation, the one divided by n - 1.
Widget

Takes the mean, standard deviation and size of each group. Welch does not assume the two variances are equal and is the safer default; the pooled form assumes they are.

The t value a printed table would give you for these degrees of freedom, including the fractional ones a Welch test produces, which no table has a row for.

Fractional degrees of freedom are accepted.
