Uncertainty Calculator

This tool propagates measurement uncertainty from the quantities you measured to the quantity you worked out. Enter each value with its uncertainty and pick how they combine: a sum or difference adds absolute uncertainties in quadrature, a product or power adds relative ones weighted by the exponent, and a single-variable function goes through its own derivative. You can also hand it a column of repeated readings and get the mean with the standard uncertainty of that mean. Every answer comes back as an absolute uncertainty, a relative one and a quoted result rounded so the last digit of the value matches the last digit of the uncertainty.

Use -1 to subtract this term.
One is the usual teaching rule. Two is what most measurement standards ask for, and is safer when the leading digit is a 1.

Use -1 to divide by this factor, 2 to square it, 0.5 for a square root.
