Freight Class Calculator

Freight class is what an LTL carrier prices a shipment from, and for most goods it falls straight out of the density. Enter the crate or pallet dimensions, the piece count and the total weight to get the cubic feet, the pounds per cubic foot, the class that density lands in, and the weight that would move it either way. A second form takes a density you already know. Density is only one of four NMFC factors, so a commodity with its own item number can carry a fixed class whatever the cube says.

Measure and Weigh In
The class table is published in pounds per cubic foot and the class you get is the same either way. This only changes the tape and the scale you are reading from, and the density is shown in both.

Measure the skid or crate, put the whole shipment weight in, and this gives the cube, the density and the class that density falls in.

The longest side of one piece, measured at its widest point including overhang, in the unit you chose above.
Floor to the top of the load, so the pallet itself counts.
Everything on the bill: goods, packaging and pallets, in the unit you chose above.

Density In
The published table is in pounds per cubic foot. One pound per cubic foot is 16.0185 kilograms per cubic metre exactly, so a kilogram figure is converted before the lookup and both are shown back.

If you already have the pounds per cubic foot, this is the lookup on its own.

In the unit you chose above.
