Diminished Value Calculator

Diminished value is the resale value a car loses simply because an accident is on its record, even after a good repair. This runs the 17c formula, which takes 10 percent of the pre-accident value and then cuts it by a damage multiplier and a mileage multiplier, and it shows each step so you can see where the number came from. A second action does the subtraction an appraiser does, taking the value before the accident less the value of the repaired car. The 17c recipe comes from one Georgia consent order in Mabry v. State Farm and insurers do not agree on a single method, so the figure is a starting point for a claim rather than an amount you are owed.

The multipliers below are the ones written into the Mabry consent order. Enter the value the car had the day before the accident.

What the car would have sold for the day before the crash, in the condition it was in. A retail guide value for your trim and mileage is the usual source.
The reading in miles, which is the unit the 17c mileage bands are written in.

What the repaired car would fetch now, with the accident on its history. Comparable cars with a reported accident are the best guide.
The final repair bill. Used only to show the damage-to-value ratio, which adjusters lean on when they judge severity.
