Wheelchair Ramp Calculator

This works out the geometry of a wheelchair ramp against the ADA 2010 slope rules. Enter the rise and pick a slope and it returns the run, the sloped length, the angle, the percent grade and how many level landings the rise forces. Enter the rise and the space you actually have instead, and it gives the slope that fits and says whether it clears the 1:12 ADA maximum. The gentler options are ADA slopes, while the 1:6 and 1:4 settings are portable ramp supplier guidance for assisted or unoccupied use and are labelled as non-compliant. A private home answers to the local building code rather than the ADA, and an occupational therapist should set the slope for the person and the chair that will use it.

Measurements In
Every measurement you enter and every length in the answer follows this. The slope is a ratio, so it is the same either way.

Measure from the ground to the top of the threshold, pick a slope, and get the run, the ramp length and the landings.

Ground level up to the surface you are ramping onto, including the threshold.
ADA asks for at least 36 in clear between the handrails, which is 914.4 mm. Leave it blank for exactly that.

When the run is fixed by a driveway or a wall: what slope that space gives, and whether it is legal.

The straight run only. Landings are reported separately.
