Coffee to Water Ratio Calculator

A brew ratio is the weight of dry coffee against the weight of water, so 1 to 16 means 30 grams of coffee to 480 grams of water. Pick a method and this gives the dose from the water, the water from the dose, or both from the amount of brewed coffee you actually want, with a milder and a stronger setting either side of each preset and a box for your own ratio. It also subtracts the water the wet grounds keep, about 2 grams for every gram of coffee, which is why a 480 gram pour yields around 420 millilitres. Espresso is treated separately, because there the ratio already refers to the liquid weighed into the cup.

Weigh the beans, get the water. Grams and millilitres are the same thing for water.

Only used when the method above is set to "My own ratio". Filter brewing lives between 1:15 and 1:18, immersion between 1:12 and 1:15.
About 2 is the usual working figure for filter and immersion brewing. Set it to 0 to ignore the loss. It is not applied to espresso, where the ratio already refers to what lands in the cup.

Work backwards from the finished brew, so the water poured covers what the grounds keep. This is the one that stops a 500 g pour turning into 420 mL of coffee.
