Rent Split Calculator

This divides rent between housemates three ways. The room-size split sets aside a share of the rent for the kitchen, bathroom and living room, divides that evenly, and divides the rest by the size of each private room. The income split puts the rent in proportion to what each person earns and shows what percentage of their own income it takes. The third handles a part month, dividing by the nights each person was actually there and showing what the household is left short if everybody pays only for their own nights. Every split is rounded to whole cents by largest remainder, so the shares add back to the rent exactly and the odd cent is given to a named person.

Calculator Type

The usual fair-rent method. Decide what share of the rent is paying for the kitchen, bathroom and living room, split that evenly, and split what is left by the size of each private room.

Square feet, square metres or anything else, as long as everyone uses the same unit. One per line or separated by commas.
Nobody can tell you this number. Leave it at 0 to split strictly by room size, or set it to the fraction of the floor area that is kitchen, bathroom and living room.
Split evenly, because the heating does not care how big your bedroom is.

Somebody arrived on the tenth, or left before the end. Enter how many nights each person is there for and the rent is divided by nights instead of by heads.

The real length of the month. Some leases prorate on a flat 30 day month instead; use 30 if yours does.
Move in on the 18th of a 31 day month and you are there for 14 nights.
Split by nights as well, on the same proportions as the rent.
