The two numbers are ranked separately and the higher category is the one that applies, so the result shows what each number would give on its own and which of them decides the answer. Pulse pressure and mean arterial pressure come with it. One reading is one moment: the guideline diagnoses hypertension from an average across separate occasions, so this categorises a number rather than diagnosing anything.
