Breastfeeding Calorie Calculator

Human milk carries about 0.67 kcal per millilitre, so the energy a mother spends making it follows from how much she makes. Choose the baby's age and how much of the feeding is breast milk, or enter a measured daily volume, and this returns the energy in the milk and the extra food energy the published estimates allow for. Part of that cost is assumed to come from body stores over the first six months rather than from food. Milk output varies so widely between mothers that the range matters more than the middle figure, and nothing here is a calorie target.

Calculator Type
The published figures cover the first year. Milk output past twelve months varies too widely for an average to mean much.

Measured In
What you actually produce in twenty four hours. Exclusive pumpers know this; if you feed at the breast you do not, and the other action uses an average instead.
