Glucose Infusion Rate Calculator

A dextrose solution carries its percentage as grams per 100 mL, so an infusion at a known rate delivers glucose at a rate that follows from the weight, the concentration and the millilitres an hour. Enter the weight, the concentration printed on the bag and the rate that was ordered, and the tool returns the glucose infusion rate in mg/kg/min with the working; the second tab runs it the other way for an order already written in mg/kg/min. It is an arithmetic check on an infusion somebody has prescribed, and it suggests no rate, no concentration and no target. The prescriber's order and an independent second check govern what is given.

Calculator Type
Weight Unit

For an infusion that is already running or already prescribed: the concentration on the bag and the rate on the pump, converted to mg/kg/min.

Pick the unit below. A 1,450 g baby is 1.45 kg.
The number on the bag: enter 10 for D10W, 12.5 for D12.5W. A percentage is grams per 100 mL.
The rate on the order, or the rate set on the pump you are checking.

Weight Unit

For an order written as a glucose infusion rate: the pump rate in mL per hour that delivers the rate already prescribed. It does not propose a rate.

Pick the unit below. A 1,450 g baby is 1.45 kg.
The number on the bag: enter 10 for D10W, 12.5 for D12.5W. A percentage is grams per 100 mL.
Copy the figure from the order. This page does not suggest one.
