Horse Coat Color Calculator

This runs a Punnett square over the five coat colour genes a horse is most often tested for: extension, agouti, cream, dun and grey. Enter each parent's genotype at those loci and the result gives the chance of every colour the foal can be born, the genotype odds locus by locus, and the separate chance that the foal carries grey and lightens as it ages. Silver, champagne, pearl, roan, sooty and every white pattern such as tobiano or leopard complex are outside the model and are named in the result. The answer is only as reliable as the genotypes entered, because agouti does not show on a chestnut and grey hides whatever is underneath.

Set the genotype of each parent at the five loci. Genotypes come from a coat colour test; a horse that has never been tested can only be guessed at from its own colour and its foals.

A chestnut sire is e/e. A black, bay or brown sire is E/E or E/e, and only a test or a red foal tells you which.
Agouti does not show on a chestnut, so a chestnut horse can be A/A, A/a or a/a.
A grey horse is G/G or n/G. Grey hides the colour underneath, so test the sire rather than judging by eye.
