Quilt Calculator

This one covers the quilt top, which is the part before the backing and the binding. Give it a finished block size and a layout and it returns the finished quilt size, the cut size of every piece, how many sashing strips and cornerstones the grid needs, and how much fabric the blocks, sashing and borders take. A second action works the other way, fitting a block size to a finished quilt size and telling you the border that lands on it. A third splits the yardage between up to three fabrics for a pieced block.

Calculator Type
Measured In
Applies to every measurement on this form and to every measurement in the answer. Finished sizes, cut sizes and the fabric width all follow it, and the cloth is bought by the yard or by the metre to match.
A quarter inch is the quilting standard; 0.75 cm is the metric one. Left blank it takes whichever suits the unit picked above.
Each width is listed in the unit it is actually sold in. A 44 in bolt and a 110 cm bolt are different cloth, not the same cloth converted, so both lists are here whichever unit you are working in.
Both edges together. Left blank it is 1 in, or 2.5 cm.
Per yard when the measurements are in inches, per metre when they are in centimetres, matching the quantity the answer says to buy.
