Scuba Diving Weight Calculator

This gives a starting figure for how much lead to take on the first dive of a trip, using the percentage-of-body-weight bands published in recreational dive training guidance. Enter your body weight, your exposure suit and whether the water is salt or fresh, and it returns the starting weight in pounds and kilograms with the band it came from. Fresh water is corrected from the density difference between sea water and fresh water rather than from a table. It is a starting point and nothing else: the weight you dive is the one a buoyancy check at the surface with a nearly empty cylinder gives you, done with an instructor or divemaster watching.

Weight Unit

A published starting figure for the first buoyancy check of a trip. It is not a weight to dive without checking it in the water.

In pounds, like your body weight. Only used for the fresh water correction. Leave it blank for a typical single cylinder rig, about 40 lb.
