Rational Equation Calculator

This tool solves equations where x appears in a denominator. Give it either one fraction set equal to another, or two fractions adding to a number, by entering the coefficients of each linear numerator and denominator, and it lists the values x may not take, clears the denominators, shows the linear or quadratic that is left, and solves it. Any root that makes one of the original denominators zero is reported separately as extraneous and is not counted as a solution, which is the step that separates a rational equation from an ordinary one. Each surviving root is substituted back into the original equation and the two sides are printed so you can see the check.
