Synthetic Division Calculator

Synthetic division is the shorthand for dividing a polynomial by a linear factor, and this page lays out its tableau rather than doing long division. You enter the polynomial and a divisor such as x - 3, and it shows the coefficient row, the multiply row and the bottom row, then reads the quotient and remainder off the end of it. The last entry is also the value of the polynomial at that root, so the remainder and factor theorems are reported with it. A divisor of degree two or more is refused, because the method does not apply to one.

Synthetic division only, with the bring-down, multiply and add tableau laid out. The divisor has to be linear; anything of higher degree belongs in the long division calculator.

Write it out, or give the coefficients from the highest power down, such as 1, -6, 11, -6. Missing powers count as zero either way.
Such as x - 3, x + 2 or 2x - 1. A bare number is read as the value that goes in the box, so 3 means x - 3.
