Commute Cost Calculator

A commute is the same drive a few hundred times a year, and this works out what that comes to. Enter the one-way distance, the days a week and weeks a year you make it, your fuel economy, the pump price, a per-mile figure for wear and anything you pay to park, and it returns the cost per day, week, month and year with the miles and hours behind it. A second mode sets that total against a monthly transit pass or carpool share and gives the pass price at which the two break even. Insurance and the car payment are left out, because they barely move with the drive.

Distance, fuel economy, fuel price and the wear figure are all read in whichever you pick.

Fuel, wear and parking for the same drive repeated all year, with the hours it takes alongside the money.

Door to door in miles, one direction. The tool doubles it for the return leg.
Three days a week in the office is 3, not 5.
52 less holiday and leave. 48 is a common figure.
Miles per gallon, on the US gallon of 3.785 litres.
Per US gallon, or per litre in metric.
Wear that the distance causes, on top of fuel. Dollars per mile, or per kilometre in metric. Fifteen to thirty cents a mile is typical, which is about nine to nineteen cents a kilometre. Left blank it is 0.20, so in metric lower it to about 0.12 for the same car. Set it to 0 to count fuel only.
Leave it empty and the hours are simply left out.
Only used to put a number on the hours. Leave it empty to price the money alone.
