Cubic Feet to Square Feet Calculator

Cubic feet measure a volume and square feet measure a flat area, so there is no conversion factor between them and the sum is not dimensionally valid until a depth is given. This tool makes the depth an explicit input: enter a volume in cubic feet and how deep the material will be spread, in inches or feet, and it returns the area covered in square feet, square yards and square metres. The second action runs it the other way, turning a measured area and a depth into the cubic feet needed, with cubic yards and US gallons beside it. Use it for mulch, topsoil, gravel or concrete, where a delivery arrives as a volume and the job is measured as an area.

Depth Measured In

A volume you already have, spread to a depth you choose.

Cubic feet, which is what this page is for. Working in cubic metres? A cubic foot is 0.028316846592 cubic metres exactly, so divide your cubic metres by that figure first. The answer comes back in square metres as well as square feet either way.
How deep the material lies once it is spread, or how tall the space is. Without it there is no area to report.
