Deck Cost Calculator

This calculator counts the materials for a rectangular deck and puts a price on every line. Enter the deck size, the board and joist spacing and your own prices for boards, framing lumber, posts, footings, hardware, railing and stairs, and it returns the cost of each line, the materials subtotal, tax, labour and the cost per square foot. A second tab works from a contractor rate per square foot instead, adding stairs, railing, tear-out and fees. No prices are built in, because lumber prices move and vary between towns, so the quotes have to come from you.

Measurements In

Counts the materials for a rectangular deck and prices each line at the prices you enter.

The side the boards run along, and the side against the house on an attached deck.
How far the deck reaches out from the house. Joists run this way.
Trade names, because that is what the label on the rack says. The 5.5 in face is the 140 mm decking sold in metric markets and the 3.5 in face is the 90 mm.
The length the rack actually holds, whichever system you measured the deck in. A 4.8 m board is 77 mm shorter than a 16 ft one, so they are two products rather than one length written twice.
In inches. An eighth of an inch is the usual gap between boards.
The module the frame is set out on. 400 mm is not 16 in rounded off, and 600 mm exists because it divides a 1200 mm sheet, so each market keeps its own rungs.
Per linear foot, or per linear metre if you chose metric. Joists, beam, rim, ledger and blocking are all counted at this price.
Leave at zero if you are building it yourself.
