Spray Foam Insulation Cost Calculator

Spray foam is sold by the board foot, one square foot at one inch deep, so the whole estimate starts from area times depth. Enter the area with either a depth or a target R-value and this returns the board feet, the sets to order, the number of passes and the total cost, with the price per board foot, the yield per set and the R per inch all left as inputs you can overwrite with your own quote. A third tab puts open cell and closed cell side by side at the same R-value, where the cheaper foam per board foot needs nearly twice the depth. Set yields on the label are nominal and fall in cold conditions, so treat the set count as a floor.

Measurements In
Covers every figure on this form and every figure in the answer. RSI is the metric R-value in m2.K/W, and it is what Australia and New Zealand mean when they say R.
Per board foot, or per cubic metre when the measurements above are metric. Leave blank for the usual figure: about $0.50 open cell, $1.20 closed cell, which is $211.89 and $508.53 a cubic metre. Put your quoted rate in if you have one; installed quotes and bare material differ by a lot.
In board feet. Blank uses 16,000 bf for open cell and 4,000 bf for closed. The number printed on the kit is a nominal yield at one inch and in warm conditions.
R-value per inch, or RSI per metre when the measurements above are metric. Blank uses R-3.6 per inch open cell and R-6.3 closed, which is RSI 24.96 and RSI 43.68 per metre. Published ranges are roughly 3.5 to 3.8 and 6.0 to 7.0 per inch.

An R-value, or RSI when the measurements above are metric. R-21 is RSI 3.70 and R-60 is RSI 10.57.
Per board foot, or per cubic metre when the measurements above are metric. Blank uses $0.50 open cell and $1.20 closed cell, which is $211.89 and $508.53 a cubic metre.
In board feet, as printed on the kit.
R-value per inch, or RSI per metre when the measurements above are metric.
Optional. A 2x4 stud bay is 3.5 in, a 2x6 is 5.5 in, a 2x8 is 7.25 in; a 90 mm metric stud gives 90 mm and a 140 mm stud 140 mm.
