MME Calculator

This calculator adds up the total daily morphine milligram equivalents of the opioids a person is currently taking, using the conversion factors published in the CDC Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Pain, United States, 2022. Enter each drug, the milligrams in one dose and the number of doses a day, plus a transdermal fentanyl patch strength if there is one, and it returns the daily total with every line shown. The caution CDC prints with that same table is that these factors must not be used to work out a dose when converting one opioid to another, because cross-tolerance is incomplete and people differ; equianalgesic conversion is a prescriber decision made against product labelling, and an error there can be fatal. MME is a population-level yardstick for research and prescribing safety review, so the figure says nothing about whether a prescription suits anyone. It does not tell anyone to change a dose.

Enter the opioids someone is taking now. This adds them up on one scale; it is not a way to convert one opioid into another, and it is not advice to change anything.

Patch strength in micrograms per hour, not mg. Leave at zero if there is no patch.
