Swing Weight Calculator

Swingweight in racket sports is the moment of inertia of the frame about an axis 10 cm from the butt, measured in kg-cm^2, and it is what a spec sheet means by a figure such as 320. Enter mass, balance point and swingweight and this returns the moment about the balance point and about the butt end, the balance in points head light, and what one gram is worth at each station up the racket. Two further actions work out what lead tape at a chosen position does to mass, balance and swingweight, and what lead at 3 and 9 o'clock does to twistweight. This is not the golf number: a golf swing weight is a static balance moment read off the Lorythmic scale about a fulcrum 14 inches from the butt, and golf-swing-weight-calculator is the page for a club. Twistweight has to come off the spec sheet, because mass and balance alone cannot say how the mass is spread across the head.

Calculator Type
Masses In
The racket mass and any weight added or removed. Swingweight and twistweight stay in kg-cm^2 either way, because that is the unit the measurement is defined in and the only one a spec sheet uses.
Distances Along the Racket In
The length, the balance point, the head width and every weight position. A standard tennis racket is 27 in, which is 68.58 cm; the swingweight axis sits 10 cm, or 3.94 in, up from the butt whichever you pick.
Tennis is roughly 280 to 340 g strung (9.9 to 12.0 oz), badminton 80 to 95 g.
A standard tennis racket is 68.58 cm, which is 27 inches. Badminton is about 67.5 cm. Left blank it assumes 68.58 cm.

A tennis frame is usually 12 to 17. If the spec sheet omits it, guess from a similar head size.
The same amount goes on at 3 and at 9 o'clock, so the racket stays symmetric.
Left blank it assumes 68.58 cm, which is 27 inches.
