Golf Swing Weight Calculator

Swing weight is not a weight. It is the moment of the assembled club about a fulcrum 14 inches from the butt of the grip, read out in lettered points from A0 to G10, where one point is 1.75 inch-ounces. Weigh the club and find its balance point and this returns the exact reading; enter head, shaft and grip weights with the club length instead and it estimates one, showing what each part contributes. A third mode takes the swing weight you already have and tells you what adding lead tape at the head, fitting a lighter grip or changing shafts moves it to, in points. It also works out how many grams one point costs on your club length rather than quoting the usual rule of two grams at the head and five in the grip.

Calculator Type
Weighed In
The assembled club, grip and all.
Rest the club across a straight edge and slide it until it sits level, then measure from the butt end of the grip.

Leave blank and half the club length is used. A shaft maker usually quotes this measured from the tip, so subtract it from the shaft length first.
Leave blank and the club length less 0.75 in is used, which is about right for an iron. A driver head sits further inside, nearer 1.5 in.

The digit beside the letter, so a D2 club is letter D and number 2. A Lorythmic reading is a point on a scale rather than a weight, so it carries no unit.
Lead tape, a tip weight or a heavier head. Use a minus sign for weight taken off.
The difference between the new grip and the old one. A lighter grip raises swing weight.
Counted as acting at the shaft balance point, half way along the club.
