Tablecloth Size Calculator

This works out what size tablecloth a table needs, for rectangular, round and oval tops. Enter the table measurements and pick a drop, either a named one such as lap length or floor length or a figure of your own, and it returns the finished cloth size, the smallest common stock size that covers it, the drop that stock size would actually give, where the hem lands and how many the table seats. The four named drops are spelled out, because lap length and floor length are the ones most catalogues use without defining. Seating is counted from the table edge at an allowance you can change, not from the cloth. It sizes the cloth, not the fabric to buy, so a made-to-measure job still needs a yardage worked out from the bolt width.

Everything you type and everything in the answer follows this choice. The stock sizes are the North American range, sold in whole inches, so in centimetres they are given both ways with a round metric size beside them.
The drop is how far the cloth hangs down each side. These two named drops are inch conventions, so in centimetres they come out at 20.3 and 38.1; pick a drop of your own for a round metric number.
Only used when the drop style above is set to a drop you choose. Left blank it is 8 in (20.3 cm).
Dining tables are usually 29 to 30 in, 74 to 76 cm. Used for a floor-length drop and to say how far the hem stops above the floor. Left blank it is 30 in (76.2 cm).
22 in, about 56 cm, is the banquet convention. Allow 24 in or 60 cm and up for a roomy setting. Left blank it is 22 in.
