Asphalt Driveway Cost Calculator

This prices a whole asphalt driveway rather than just the hot mix. Enter the length and width or the area, then the mat thickness, the aggregate base under it, and whatever you are paying for tear-out, excavation, paving labour, tack coat, edging and sealcoating, and it returns every line with the total and the cost per square foot. Each price starts at zero and stays out of the total until you fill it in, because asphalt pricing follows the oil market and the haul distance from the nearest plant, so a national average would be no use in a budget. It is a way to check a quote line by line, or to find out which part of one is the expensive part.

This moves the whole form. Every measurement and every per-unit rate below is read in the system you pick here, and the answers come back in it too. In metric the two thicknesses are millimetres, the densities kilograms per cubic metre, the tack coat litres per square metre and the spoil cubic metres.
One car wants about 10 to 12 feet, two abreast about 20 feet.
Compacted depth of the finished mat, in inches. A residential drive is usually 2 to 3 inches over a base. Leave it blank for 3 inches.
Pounds per cubic foot. Compacted hot mix is usually 140 to 150. Leave it blank for 145 lb per cubic foot.
Ask whether the quoted price includes laying and rolling. If it does, leave the labour line at zero.
Crushed stone under the mat, in inches. Type 0 if you are overlaying an existing surface. Leave it blank for 6 inches.
Pounds per cubic foot. Crushed stone runs about 95 to 140, depending on the grading and how well it is compacted. Leave it blank for 105 lb per cubic foot.
Breaking up and hauling away the surface that is there now. Leave at 0 on a new driveway.
Digging down to grade for the base and the mat, and getting rid of the spoil.
The bonding layer between an old surface and a new one, in gallons per square yard. Usually a light application. Leave it blank for 0.05 gal per sq yd.
Paver, timber or spade-cut edge around the perimeter.
New asphalt is normally left to cure for several months before the first seal.

Square feet, or square metres in metric. For a drive that is not a rectangle, add up the pieces and put the total here.
