Linear Feet Calculator

Linear feet are plain feet measured along the material, with its width ignored. Give the room or yard dimensions and it walks the perimeter, takes out the doorways and gates, adds a waste allowance and turns the result into whole boards at the stock length you buy. A second mode adds up a list of measured pieces written as six by eight, and a third turns a length you already know into a piece count and a price. This never converts an area into a length, because that needs the material width and has its own page.

The answer comes back in linear feet. Every length on the form, including any stock length and any price per unit of length, is read in feet and inches.

Baseboard, crown, chair rail, gutter or fence around a rectangle. Doorways and other gaps come off the total.

Leave blank and put the whole thing in the box above as a decimal if you would rather.
Doorways, cased openings, gates. Leave at zero for a continuous run such as crown moulding.
Left blank this is a 36 inch doorway.
Covers mitres, offcuts and mistakes. Ten percent is usual for trim, more where every joint is mitred.
Stock usually comes in 8, 10 and 16 ft. Leave at zero to skip the piece count.
Per linear foot, or per linear metre if you chose metres. Leave at zero to skip the cost.

One entry per size. Write "6 x 8" for six pieces of eight feet, or just "12.5" for a single length.

Lengths are decimal, in whichever unit you picked above, so 8 ft 6 in is 8.5 and 2 m 40 cm is 2.4.

You know how many linear feet you need. This says how many whole pieces to buy at the length the yard sells, and what it costs.

Leave at zero if the figure you entered already includes it.
