Sod Calculator

Sod is sold by the roll and delivered by the pallet, so this turns a lawn area into both. Measure a plain rectangle, or break an awkward yard into rectangles, a triangle and a circle and take the beds and paths back off, then set the roll size and the rolls per pallet your supplier actually uses. It adds a waste allowance, which matters far more on a curved lawn than on a rectangle because every edge piece has to be cut, and it compares buying loose rolls against buying whole pallets. A third mode works the other way and tells you how much lawn the pallets already on order will lay.

This moves the whole form. Every measurement below is read in the system you pick here, and the answer comes back in it too.

Measure the whole area, take off anything that is not getting grass, and get rolls and pallets.

Square feet, or square metres if you switched above. Flower beds, the patio, the driveway, anything inside your measurements that is not getting grass.
About 5% for a plain rectangle, 10% for curved edges, 15% or more for a lawn broken up by beds, paths and tight corners where every edge piece is cut.
Square feet, or square metres if you switched above. A 2 x 5 ft roll covers 10 sq ft; a 16 x 24 in slab covers 2.67; a big roll can cover 50 or more. Metric turf is normally a 1 m2 roll. Leave it blank for the ordinary roll in the system you picked, and ask your supplier if you are not sure.
Forty-five 10 sq ft rolls make a 450 sq ft pallet, which is typical. Pallets run from about 400 to 500 sq ft, or 40 to 50 one-metre rolls.
Fill both prices in to see which way of buying is cheaper.

Break an awkward yard into two rectangles, a triangle and a circle, then take the beds and paths back off. Leave anything you do not need at zero.

For a corner or a wedge: half of base times height.
For a round lawn or a curved bay. Half a circle: use the diameter and halve the result yourself.

A lawn cut into sections is rarely a tidy shape, so 10 to 15% is more realistic here than 5%.

The other direction: you know how many pallets are coming and want the area they will lay.

How much you expect to cut off and throw away, which decides how much lawn the pile really covers.
