Tattoo Cost Calculator

Tattoo pricing comes down to an hourly rate, a shop minimum and how long the piece will take. Enter the rate and minimum your shop quotes, the width and height of the design, and how detailed and how awkwardly placed it is, and the tool returns the hours, the price, how many sittings it splits into and the tip. Every factor it multiplies by is an input with a default rather than a hidden constant, so you can swap in what your own artist charges. It is a budgeting estimate rather than a quote, because prices vary enormously between artists and studios.

Put in the rate and minimum your shop actually quotes. The factors below are only defaults; change them if you know how your artist works.

Ask the shop. Rates commonly run from about $100 to $300 an hour and go higher for sought-after artists.
Almost every shop has one. Anything small is charged at the minimum however quick it is.
The pace before the factors below are applied, in the unit chosen above. 0.15 hours per square inch is the same pace as 0.02325 hours per square centimetre, and puts a plain palm-sized piece at roughly three hours. Left blank it is 0.15 per square inch.
Most people tap out somewhere between three and six hours.
Tipping is customary in the US, usually 15 to 25 percent. Set it to zero where it is not.
