Flooring Cost Calculator

This compares flooring materials against each other for one room rather than pricing a single one. Enter the room size and, for each of up to three floors, the material rate, the labour rate, the waste allowance and the expected service life; removal, subfloor preparation and flat fees are entered once and charged against every option. It returns the installed cost, the cost per square foot, the cost for each year of service life and the cost over the window you choose, which charges a fresh installation whenever a floor wears out inside it. The cheapest floor to fit is often not the cheapest to own, and that gap is what the table is for.

Measurements and Rates In
This moves the room size, the extra area and every rate box below it at once. Enter the rates in the same unit you picked here, and every area and per-area figure in the answer comes back in it too.
How long you expect to keep the place. Over a short window the cheap floor usually wins; over a long one it usually does not.
In whichever unit you chose at the top. The same choice applies to the labour, removal and preparation rates.
Waste is charged on material only. Ten per cent is the usual straight-lay allowance; a diagonal tile layout or a room full of angles takes more.
Expected service life in years before the floor is replaced. Commonly published: solid hardwood 30 to 100 because it can be sanded back, engineered wood 20 to 40, tile 50 to 100, laminate and luxury vinyl 10 to 25, sheet vinyl 10 to 20, carpet 5 to 15.
